Root Canal Treatment

root canal treatment Millions of teeth are treated and saved each year with root canal treatment. A root canal is a type of endodontic treatment used to help relieve tooth pain and restore the tooth. Inside the tooth, under the hard layer of enamel, is a soft tissue called the pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissues that make up the root of the tooth. When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected, endodontic treatment is necessary in order to reach the inside of the tooth and treat the infected area.

Cause for tooth decay can vary, but the most common causes are deep decay within the tooth, injury or trauma to the tooth, or repeated dental procedures on the tooth. During root canal treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp within the tooth is removed and the inside of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before being filled and sealed with a special material called gutta-percha. The tooth will be restored with a crown or filling to protect it from becoming infected again.

While root canals used to be a dreaded dental experience, modern root canal treatment is very similar to having a routine filling. At Family & Cosmetic Dental Care, Dr. Mitul Patel and his dedicated team of dental support professionals provide the highest quality endodontic care possible in a comfortable, caring environment. If you are experiencing severe tooth pain, do not put off coming to the dentist another day. Delaying a needed root canal can result in an abscessed tooth and/or exposing the entire mouth to infection. Dr. Patel can take you through a thorough examination to determine if root canal treatment is necessary. Family & Cosmetic Dental Care is here to help restore your dental health.
