Gingivitis: Gum Disease

Many people may have gingivitis and not be aware of it because it is seldom painful, until it reaches a very serious stage. Healthy gums are pink and firm, do not bleed easily, and solidly support the teeth. Gums that are infected are swollen, red, receding, bleed easily while brushing or flossing, and can become very tender.

At Hello Family Dental in the Suwanee and Johns Creek area, Dr. Mitul Patel is dedicated to providing patients with the preventative care they need to ensure a health mouth. He also provides periodontal treatment options for those whose mouths have the gum disease gingivitis to restore the health of the teeth and gums.

Regular brushing, flossing and dental checkups are needed to keep the mouth clean. Plaque is an invisible, sticky film that develops on the enamel of the teeth from a large number of bacteria in the mouth. While bacteria are natural and needed in the mouth, when their numbers grow due to a lack of proper oral hygiene, they can overwhelm the body’s system of flushing out their numbers. Brushing and flossing removes extra bacteria and plaque from the teeth.

By keeping regular dental appointments, Mitul Patel DDS can identify early signs of gingivitis, as well as other dental conditions, before they cause troubling symptoms and lead to more serious problems. For patients who notice any of the signs of gingivitis, we encourage you to make an appointment with our dental practice as soon as possible. Early treatment means more complete reversal of the damage from gingivitis and from preventing its progression.  We are accepting new patients at the Hello Family Dental office and would encourage you to call if you feel you have any symptoms of gingivitis as we are here to help.
