LANAP® stands for “Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure.” Gum disease, whether moderate or severe, should not be ignored due to the impact that it can have on the entire body. Because gums are living tissue, any infection found in the gums can easily travel through the blood stream and infect major organs. LANAP® is used to sterilize and heal gum infection in a noninvasive and quick method. The ultra-thin laser is used to clear damaging bacteria between the gum and the teeth instead of using manual instruments. The procedure requires only a local anesthetic and can be completed in only two, two-hour sessions.
