At Family & Cosmetic Dental Care, we recommend an oral exam during all of our patients’ routine dental visits to screen for oral cancer. During this oral cancer screening, Dr. Mitul Patel (a board certified Doctor of Dental Surgery) will look over the inside of a patient’s mouth to check for red or white patches or mouth sores. He will also feel the tissues of the cheeks and gums to check for lumps or other abnormalities that could be signs of oral cancer.
It is important to note that not all abnormal sores of the mouth are cancerous. However, being aware of any abnormalities within the mouth is especially important for you and your dentist. Dr. Patel monitors his patient’s oral health very carefully and uses an oral cancer screning to help him do so. Any sign of something out of the ordinary will be evaluated more closely to determine if further testing or treatment is necessary. Dr. Patel utilizes the most advanced technology available to identify mouth and throat cancers in their earliest stages.
